Volunteering at school
Volunteering at your student’s school is a fun way to get involved and be part of their school experience! Kids are always excited to see their parents and guardians in the classroom or at school events. Even if you only have an hour to spare, every bit of time you can give makes a difference!
Volunteering at PTA events after school hours
Good news! Civicore approval is not required for volunteering on campus after school hours.
This includes events such as Movie Nights, Trunk or Treat, Astronomy Night, and other activities that take place after the school day has ended.
For Volunteers During School Hours with Staff/Teacher Supervision
Starting with the 2026–2027 school year, FUSD has updated its requirements for volunteering during school hours to comply with state legislation.
We know there are a few more steps than in previous years, but once you complete the required training and paperwork, you’ll be all set to volunteer at school!
For official information from FUSD about volunteering, please see this website and these slides.
All Civicore resources and forms referenced below can be accessed here.
Requirements & Procedures
Who can volunteer?
Volunteers must be high school graduates.
1. Complete your Civicore volunteer registration
Please submit or renew your Civicore volunteer registration application. Be sure to complete all fields and questions, including the Emergency Contact section.
If you are a Room Parent, select “On-Campus with Supervision” under “Type of Volunteering.”
Important: As part of a Civicore system update, accounts for volunteers who created their accounts or registered before July 2025 were deleted. If your previous account was deleted, you will need to create a new account using a different email address. The same email address associated with your deleted account cannot be used again. FUSD is aware of this issue and is actively working with Civicore to resolve it. For now, please use a different email address as a workaround.
2. Complete and upload the required documents
The following items must be uploaded as part of your Civicore application:
Government-issued ID or valid passport: Upload a clear image of your ID.
Keenan Mandated Reporter Training: Complete the Keenan Safe Schools training. The training takes approximately 1 hour, including questions, and must be completed in one sitting.
This training is an annual requirement. Your certificate must be completed through Keenan Safe Schools and be valid for the current fiscal year (for example, July 2026–June 2027).
Click “Register” in the Login area and use Registration Key: c5542700
Once completed, download your certificate PDF and upload it to your Civicore application.
Once your application is processed and approved, you will be notified by FUSD via email. If you need to double check the status of your application, you can contact the James Leitch school office in-person or reach out to the school secretary, Kristela Gonzalez, at kgonzalez1@fusdk12.net.
